PhD, RN, MSN , Doctoral (Alumni)

Schola Matovu, PhD, RN, MSN, earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of California at San Francisco in 2017. Her research focus is on investigating and comparing anxiety and depression symptoms in older African American and Ugandan caregivers to children infected with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. For over 10 years, she has derived great professional satisfaction in caring for older adults in nursing homes, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and in-home settings. In addition, she has worked at length as a research assistant on a qualitative study involving older African Americans and illicit drug abuse. Both personal and professional experiences have prepared Dr. Matovu for her current research interest in the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of older caregivers to chronically ill children.

Dr. Matovu currently serves as faculty at University of California, San Francisco, and is an active member of professional organizations such as the Sigma Theta Tau International Society, California Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association.
