Thomas C. Sargent

Thomas C. Sargent, MSN, RN, graduated from MFP-Youth in 2016 and is among the inaugural cohort.  During the program he was enrolled in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty, Masters of Science in Nursing Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Mr. Sargent was given the opportunity to matriculate through the accelerated bachelor's of science in nursing program at University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Prior to nursing, Mr. Sargent received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Before becoming a nurse, Mr. Sargent held two positions in which he helped the adolescent population who had mental health issues.  Mr. Sargent worked directly with adolescent patients at Bradford Health Services who had chemical dependencies. He also worked at Alabama Clinical Schools with children who had behavioral disorders, but also had a history of sexual aggressive behavior.

Mr. Sargent was the recipient of the Birmingham Black Nurses Association Scholarship and the Governors Lurleen B. and George C. Wallace Memorial Fund in 2014.  Mr. Sargent is member of the American Nurses Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Mr. Sargent enjoys participating in several other organizations such as March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, and America Reads Tutoring Program.
