Lisvel Matos

Lisvel Alexandra Matos, MSN, FNP-C, WHNP-BC, is pursuing a PhD at Duke University, School of Nursing, in Durham NC. Her research area of interest is understanding the multilevel determinants of HIV prevention behaviors among Latinx same-gender loving men with the goal of developing multilevel interventions to address HIV prevention gaps. She is also interested in developing strategies to increase provider knowledge of the sociocultural factors that impact Latinx same-gender loving men health and to improve quality patient-provider interactions for these groups.

Ms. Matos earned her ADN from Central Piedmont Community College (2012) in Charlotte, North Carolina. She began her career as a staff RN working with adolescents in a behavioral health facility while earning her BSN from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2013). She pursued graduate studies at Duke University where she earned her MSN as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (2016) and her Post-Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate (2019). Throughout her career, she has worked in community-based settings as a provider and advocate for the Latinx community.

Ms. Matos was a Margolis Health Policy fellow from 2020 to 2022 at the Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy. She is a member of The American Nurses Association, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau International.
